Historical Background

Legend has it that the cultivation of Tung Ting oolong began in the late 19th century when tea farmers from China's Fujian province migrated to Taiwan and settled in the Tung Ting mountain area. In 1855, during the Qing Dynasty, Lin Fengchi, an imperial scholar, brought thirty-six seedlings of Chin Shin Oolong tea to Lugu, Taiwan. These seedlings were received by the first-generation tea masters from Lin's relative. With great care, they planted these thirty-six oolong tea seedlings in the fertile soil of Tung Ting Mountain, marking the inception of Tung Ting Oolong tea's legendary journey.

Inspired by the lush terrain and ideal climate, these tea farmers began cultivating tea plants using traditional methods passed down through generations. The unique terroir of the Tung Ting mountain region, with its nutrient-rich soil and cool, misty climate, contributes to the tea's exceptional quality and flavour. Its name, "Frozen Summit," reflects the high altitude and cool climate of its cultivation area, which enhance its distinctive flavour profile.

Unique Flavour Profile

What sets Tung Ting oolong apart is its unique taste, characterised by a rich and complex combination of floral, fruity, and roast notes. This flavour profile is achieved through a precise production process that includes withering, rolling, oxidation, and roasting, all performed with meticulous attention to detail. The roasting process, in particular, enhances the tea's aroma and imparts a subtle sweetness to the brew. Prized for its versatility and ability to be steeped multiple times while maintaining its flavour and aroma, it has become a favourite among tea enthusiasts who appreciate its complexity and depth of flavour.

A Cherished Tradition

Today, Tung Ting oolong remains a cherished part of Taiwanese tea culture, celebrated for its rich history, unparalleled taste, and enduring legacy of excellence.

    Lovely find!

The tea has a really nice toasted and dry fruit fragrance, quite unique compared to other oolongs I've tried. I enjoyed it on a cozy evening.
