The Essence of Shanlinxi High Mountain Oolong Tea
Immerse yourself in the enchanting allure of Shanlinxi (meaning Cedarwood Forest and Stream) Tea, cultivated amidst Taiwan's pristine forests. In contrast to the introductory Alishan Oolong, renowned for its single elegant floral fragrance, Shanlinxi Oolong, grown at higher altitudes, offers exceptional complexity and richness, boasting a denser aroma and flavour profile with both floral and woody notes.
Exquisite Flavour and Aroma
The Shanlinxi Oolong presented by Formosa Tea Co. is harvested at an average altitude of 1,600 metres. It showcases the magnolia and orchid fragrance characteristic of Chin Shin Oolong, complemented by a woody undertone reminiscent of cedarwood. With pronounced sweetness and a lingering aftertaste, the interplay of aroma and flavour creates a rich and multi-layered sensory experience. If you're seeking a high mountain tea that stands out with its exceptional complexity and richness, we highly recommend this tea. Experience the essence of high mountain teas with Shanlinxi Oolong.
Historical Background
Originally, the Shanlinxi tea-producing area was dedicated to logging rather than tea cultivation. Alongside Alishan, both regions historically engaged in logging, but due to Shanlinxi's higher altitude, it featured predominantly cold temperate coniferous forests, particularly renowned for cedar trees. By the 1970s, Taiwan's industrial transformation and growing conservation efforts led to the decline of the logging industry. Consequently, previously cleared lands transitioned into tourism and tea cultivation areas.
As tea plants absorb the essence of their surroundings, farmers in Shanlinxi experimented with cultivating Chin ShinOolong. They discovered that the brewed tea not only carried the fragrance of orchids but also absorbed a cedar-like aroma from the land. This distinctive cedar note became a hallmark of Shanlinxi Oolong. Tea in the Shanlinxi region is cultivated in high-mountain terraced gardens amidst pristine forests, boasting exceptionally rich organic content in the soil.

Reviews
I got a couple for myself and one as a Christmas gift for my dad, and we both love it! The tea is absolutely amazing – it’s got that authentic taste I remember from living in Asia. This is the real stuff, not like the usual teas you find. Highly recommend it!
I had Alisan oolong tea before, and it was lovely, but this is the next level! It's refreshing and complex. I tasted woody, floral notes, light pear, and a hint of minerality. The leaves are the most beautiful dark green balls I've ever seen. Just wow, and I will definitely buy it again!
